A foreign friend asked me if I can find U.S. pennies from the following years: 1940, 42, 43, 47, 48, 49, 51, 54, 55, 59, 61, 65, 66, 70, 2006. I'm a total novice, so I found a few ebay listings with coin sets that cover these years (does not need to cover all, just a few would suffice), but I'm not sure if the offer all years or if the coins are random and years are not guaranteed. Can anyone suggest if there is a way to find pennies of these specific years? Thanks in advance.

One decent local coin show should fill that whole list. There are dealers with books of Lincoln cents. As these are not worth listing on ebay, they may be hard to find. Another way is to ask a local dealer to do it for you and quote you a package price for them.

First off, to the Forum! Don't forget the Buy/Sell rule here, You never mentioned a few key points, like what gradess and what mints. Most all those coins come from three mints P-D-S and condition varies along with prices. Many on ebay sell by year, or group like I do. Mine are MS/BU's, but then I also sell LWC collections 1909-1958 covering those pre-1959 dates but in a circulated state. Please define a bit better, then we can help. Many coin dealers will sell individual year/MM coins, but like any coin, you need to shop around.

Look for Whitman books on ebay. You can probably get a full circulated set of later Lincoln's for $10-15. And

There used to be a dealer who sold wheat cents by the year in his print ads. As I recall, there were several tiers of dates and you could just pick which ones you wanted. Anyone remember who that was and if he is still around?

I would head for the junk box at your LCS or at the next coin show that you can attend. Some coin dealers have several junk boxes with with prices per item labelled. (10c or 25c per item), this would be the place to look for LWC's or LMC's, that would have some interesting feature about them such as variety, date or scarcity. I have gone up market, and I usually search search in the $10 or $20 per item junk boxes. Because I have been doing this for decades, it has become hard for me to find interesting or value for money, even in these junk boxes. Half of my core collection of over 2,000 coins has come from junk boxes in the $1 to $10 price range, over a period of perhaps 30 years. Another way would be to buy job lots via ebay. This method has the disadvantage of getting coins that you don't need to complete a set.

@Andrew99: Thanks. Looks like we have a few shops in the neighborhood. Will check them out. @Steele: Thanks for giving me an idea about the price. @Crazyb0: Thank you. I do not think my friend cares about particular mints. He'll be happy if I get him just based on year. @moxking: Good idea about Whitman. The only problem on ebay, it's hard to figure out which ones are empty albums and which ones actually hold coins.

A local coin shop is going to be your best bet for getting these. These coins are not worth listing on ebay because of their low value, but they are very common and any dealer should have many examples that you can pick from.

Wife found all the needed pennies at the local stores. Didn't even get charged (but she promised to bring them some local coins). Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Could not have done it without you.
