Called my bank and talked to the branch manager on my break at work and ask if it would be a problem getting a box of nickels. Stopped in after work and got a box!

It sure is a good feeling when a bank does something for you. Rare, but it happens. Good luck!

Just finished the whole box. Don't think I went through a box that fast before. Interesting results...will post when I compile the data.

So going through a box in 2 hours? Just looking for pre 60's by eye? OR also looking for DD's and errors under a scope?

Thoughts

Not too bad overall. The 1939 is a bit worn, all honest wear. Got a couple nice 82's and 83's. I was actually expecting more Canadian nickels than I got. A couple of rolls had 2 or 3 Canadians in them. I thought the amount of the 2005 Bison nickels were a bit low. 2 rolls from the box were wrapped by Loomis. The rest were hand made rolls with various wrappers. Hands were pretty dirty afterwords. Didn't search for errors or varieties, not really my thing. All in all a productive night.

I'm not sure when I'll do this again. I dumped the rest of the nickels in the Coin Star today and chose the fee free option and got an Amazon gift card.

Sometimes the results do not feel like they are worth the effort.

At least you avoided the fee.

I politely suggest you did way better than average ... in your tally of results is listed a 1950 (Philly) Jefferson .... and that is one of nine coins in the entire series with annual mintage below 10 million.

In fact ... the 1950 Jefferson checks in as #9 lowest annual mintage with 9.8 million ... and is considered a semi-key date.

I have found 8 total 1950 Jefferson ... if that sound like a lot put it into perspective of my 371,600 nickels searched.

I average one 1950 Jefferson per (on average) 23.23 boxes ... and you found one first box out of the gate.

I say congratulations are in order.

Indeed ... and I stop at $20 in roll found nickel searches to thoroughly wash both of my hands with anti-bacterial soap and lots of water. I'm not a germa-phobic ... but you never know.
