I've found reference to a 2014-S, that carries no mint mark and "apparently" was supplement strikes for coins that were being minted in West Point.

So a few questions arise from that...

How can you be sure that one was minted in San Fransisco .vs. West Point ?

Was this a common practice for other years as well, and if so, is there a listing somewhere ?

That link refers to the burnished W collector coin not the bullion in question

Here's a Wiki link that is a bit out of date but gets the message across under "bullion"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameri...Silver_Eagle

There is also a thread in this forum re: the issue with slabbed "minted at" bullion

..and a recent example:

It would be called 2014(S) by the 3rd party grading services. The 3rd party grading services know they were actually minted in SanFran because the sealed boxes they come in have San Fran bands around them. They are identical in every way to the bullion ASE's minted in West Point. In my opinion they're just another way for the 3rd party grading services to make a buck. In my opinion, if you can't tell a difference between two coins by looking at them, they are the same.
