I saw this BU Nickel 1940 (Scratched) and noted a
ghosting around KGVI and the Beaver in the sellers
photos. I took some macro shots and see some serious
grooving near the nose and profile of the bust on the
obverse and near the beaver's head on the reverse. See
the pictures and all comments welcome. Is there ghosting
of the obverse bust on the reverse and vice versa?

Although some of it is just light reflection/refraction, I see what some describe as major indications of a weak strike .. where there wasn't enough metal to flow fully into the fields and deepest parts of the design, leaving it a little "rippley". I'm certainly not an expert on errors .. it's just my opinion, based on other discussions and seminars.

misaligned reverse die may have thrown off pressure? Need to see whole reverse.

Here are some better pictures.
Appears to be a strike through wire N in CANADA.

I have seen the same grooves in the fields in a starburst
error Die Deterioration where grit builds up on the die
and forms grooves which are then transferred to the
coins, usually in the fields.

I see die flow lines on the nose (obverse) area and possibly on the outline of the beaver. The marks on the nose of the beaver, look incuse. If so that would be damage on the coin. If they are raised, then that would be die damage like contact on deeper die devices. (I doubt this is the case though) But if they are, then it might be the beginning of die chips on the die. Hope this helps.

The marks on the fields to the left side of the beaver's nose looks like whisker design.

Thanks kindly for the replies. I will look to see if the marks are incuse or not.
The luster change from the outside of the legends to the inside of the field near
the main elements is dramatic. It is a neat coin with die cracks and a strike through,
a weak strike, Die Deterioration, and slightly misaligned reverse die.
