According to Dr. Courteau:

Variety 261
Obv. The 3 leaves at top are distant from F; the middle lock of a group of three behind top-leaves is the longest and extends to the foot of N, the left is thin and distant from same letter; the ribbon ends are plain and drapery fastened by a circular button.

Rev. Resembles No. 260, but the longest inside point of left leaf is closer to the bulb, and the letter K is double-cut. R. 2.

colonialtokens, it appears mine is the same variety as fourmack's?
Thank you.
There are several people who assigned numbers to these tokens. Without going into that, you can see 261NS is also known as NS2A2 the only variety with the K re-cut or double cut.
I rely on Charlton's Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens - W.K. Cross
Here is the page on this penny token.

I also rely heavily on the same book. Charlton is an excellent work and in this situation is more than adequate as each Courteau variety is provided an independent Courteau variety number.

Whereas in other situations Charlton merely narrows down the search, to wit NS-1D3 encompasses Courteau varieties 272, 273, 274, 275, and 276. Perhaps the most perplexing concerns Charlton's PC-5A which encompasses 75 different Courteau varieties.
