I've spent most of my life collecting only U.S. Large denomination Silver coins (old and modern). I've recently branched out to Canada and "some" Mexican. I usually purchase only pre-certified off ebay. And I usually go to sites like NGC to see what valuation they place on the coin. However, they don't list values for foreign coins.

I have several books on Canadian Coins, and Mexico, but they don't list "every coin." In fact, I have yet to find a coin I wish to purchase in my books. How can I find the current value of foreign coins (esp. Canada & Mexico)? I'm not into rare, error/variety, key date coins. Just nice pre-certified coins at decent grades. I don't want to over bid.....is my main problem. Thanks for any input (sources), "coin70"

Pick up a copy of Canadian Coin News and look at the Trends pages that will have all coins that are, or have, circulating in Canada and the Provinces for VG through MS. You should be able to pick up most of the items for 70% or so of the listed retail price .. except real scarcities.

NGC has a world coin price guide; it's difficult to use. PCGS has a price guide under "pop report"; also lists some auction results. I like J&M Coin for Canadian coins for ease of use and their table format showing mintage, grades and prices for a whole series. Charlton for Canadian if you like books. Older copies are pretty cheap on auction sites - look for the special variety issue for a particular denomination of interest like George VI 50 cents. Values there don't change much though.

I agree with 70% of trends for buying prices.

If you want to know the value of your coins, look at 'completed items' on ebay and then subtract 10% (for their fees) and this will give you the true value.
