The spikehead I'm aware of ,but the area close to the rim I need help with. Not sure what causes this. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Usually it's just die wear that causes that. See that alot on copper LMC's.

IMHO, that's not a spike head. I would generally consider a spike head a spike head if the spike came out of the heated. (Say that 3 times fast!)

If the spike come out of the "heated" LOL I think that was suppose to be head. But from what I understand a spikehead is any die crack the touches any part of the bust on the obverse.
