I couldn't help a little creative hook. I've had this " Magician's coin" for a while and finally got around to taking pics to share. Too bad I'll never know what the dates were and when it was made. I would say they are both pre-1965 and they look like a lot of the '40s and '50s I've found in rolls.

Just be thankful they weren't any of the 5 keys!

One of the older ones, not lathed out...have a two-tailed lincoln just like that.

Well I can help you narrow the date down. Type I (REV of 38) besides having wavy steps also does not have a serif on the top of the S in PLURIBUS.

So although the step details are not visible on your coin, the serifs are. So you now only have from 1939 and up to guess from

Thanks Earle.

Eliminating one date is better than nothing! So, let's see...there are only 26 other dates to consider for each side assuming they are both pre-1965.

I know it will be impossible to pin down but, it's more than slightly frustrating with a double-tails. But then again, more mysterious.

That's what I was thinking too, although I'm not completely sure what it means. This came from my wife's grandfather's collection so it was probably added in the '60s but, maybe earlier and is definitely not a more modern creation.

In some ways yes but, who really cares in that condition? It's nice to be able to rule out the keys and War Nickels but, it would be much cooler if it were two War Nickel reverses.

Definitely snagged me with that thread title, but I'm glad I looked. I've never owned a Magicians coin but I may have to change that.

Does anyone know how they were used?

@ Moxking
There are numerous types made for different tricks. A google search would help understanding them.

One of the most famous magicians coins is used for a trick called "Scotch and Soda." Youtube also probably shows it.

Looking up two headed nickel (or two tailed) will likely also bring info. These are just props for which numerous tricks can be made/done/created.

You need to get one heads and one tails, keep switching them up to keep it "fair"
