Yesterday, I was offered a $50CAD bag of red unc 1964 cents. Seller wanted $60USD. It was opened and I looked at a handful. All red MS63/64 quality. I did not buy. Correct decision?

Did you think that the bag might have been "cheery picked"..?
..and that backed you away..
(ie: were they all there..?)

I'm drooling at the thought of $60 for a bag of cents. I woulda jumped on it. Some amazing errors in the 60s !

If it was opened - it was a good move to pass.... it is really hard to move the leftover coins. This listing of mine is two years old, and I have only sold 5 rolls to date: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/BU-roll-of-1...301819687392I got a few cool errors out of that bag... I put together 10 rolls to sell and the rest went to the bank -just to get them out of my basement... I still have two sealed 1964 bags yet to open and check...

Not worried about count, worried about price and possibility of resale. The coins look like that shown in SPP's link.

Just revisited SPP's link. His bag is $60CAD, the bag offered to me was not a mint bag but a US made bag of $50CAD. I only looked at a handful from the top of the bag. I doubt if any errors would have been in it. Still at $7.50CAD ($6.14USD) per roll plus shipping - hmmm. Maybe I should have bought it at 60c per roll and sell them on ebay for $2 a roll plus shipping.

That is a lot of work for a $1.20 profit/roll, it sounds like you made a good choice, but it would be a lot of fun to search a big bag like that.

You would be a very old man by the time they all sold on ebay. You would end up paying more in ebay listing fees or store fees by the time the dust settled... I usually give out rolls of 1964 pennies to kids and as door prizes to the coin clubs... (like I said, I still have two more bags to open)....
