I don't know much about Australian coins yet, still learning, but I have this 1943 Penny with strange marks on the king's head. I don't know if it's PMD or has been double stamped. Any help would be much appreciated. Oh one more quick question, I have another 1973 Penny with no mint mark...is it worth listing for auction or is that just a waste of time?

I think though it would be a female Oz relative of Little Johnnies like Little (Waltzing) Matilda?

Impossible to tell from the pics. I see evidence of die clash, but that could be the pics and the 2x2 distorting the image. It's a nice strike for this year too!!. Needs further investigation.

I'll pop it out of the 2x2 in the morning and post a few more pics. I have another of the same year that shows very well...I'm really enjoying this branching out into Australian numismatics!

Quote:I have another 1973 Penny with no mint mark Is it a Penny or a cent? If it's a penny it's not Australian, probably UK, but if it's a cent, they were all minted in Canberra that year with no mint mark, so no added value there I'm afraid. Why not put up a piccie of it so we know for certain what the coin is?

Well...I have ANOTHER 1943 cent that I think may have a die clash... On this one it looks to me like there is a raised area that above the back of the kangaroo and above the word "penny". I ain't no expert but to me it sort of looks like it's the shape of the king's head. Anyone care to opine?

What you have there is what we call "Ghosting" and it is quite common on Australian George 6th and Elizabeth 2nd penny's and half penny's.

The 2nd 1943 Penny looks like it has a die crack going through the star and into the Roo's foot.
In Australia these coins are only ever referred to as pennies which were minted from 1911 to 1964 and our monetary system was similar to the UK Sterling System, ie Pounds, Shillings & Pence.
We went decimal in 1966 and from then on we have Dollars and cents.
