Quote: I finally got the coins in the mail and I feel good about them... Thank you for the update. Those look pretty good. Quote: What do you think of this one? At first glance I thought it was part of the set. Then I realized it was in a holder.

Right...I know what PCGS has graded the last one I posted and I think it looks quite a bit like the ones in my batch, so...
Keeping the grading honest...In fact I'd say a few of the ones I posted look better than the last one I posted...
I'd be open to why the last one looks much better than the better of mine...in fact that would be very helpful. I mean I can see finger print on the one in the holder...and it is graded MS63RB...
I dont know...just trying to learn and I'm thinking it would go most smoothly with examples I provide rather than all the random, hypothetical reading I do...These are real coins in my possession that I decided to buy. I bought them thinking they were a certain grade in my mind. This grade is based on what Ive seen in PCGS, etc holders...
I want to learn!
Thanks everyone...

Very nice lot...its probably already sold. At one time I had an avid interest in Lincoln pennies. This is a great starter set and above average in quality. Good Luck. MJH

Hey thanks for looking. I'm just glad they are not cleaned :) Well I'm pretty sure they're not, at least. Trying to put together a full set of high AU/ lower MS Lincolns and I'm down in the tough range--pre-1935. I see some of these dates going for $10-30 in this condition. I paid $40 for it all. Feel like I got a decent deal. Not a steal but I feel its fair. Comments I'm receiving make me think I paid way too much but I just cant get these on ebay any cheaper. I have to find some other places to buy. Some suggestions have been made, but I am just comfortable there. I know the game more or less and the supply is seemingly endless. Need to find a good coin show I think ;)

I think you did pretty good all-in-all. I can say with some certainty that you couldn't buy all of those raw coins individually on ebay for less than 40 bucks. Don't you wish some of the sellers would post a few close-ups of the better coins in the album? Heck, I'd even take a close-up of a few of the worst ones as well! Sure would give them more credit with me price wise. Don't be afraid to buy off ebay and other sites. If you educate yourself on photography, you can occasionally make some really big scores off of bad pics if you know what to look for. Also, remember you can return items with misleading pics oftentimes. I don't make a habit of it but if I feel misled, I have no qualms whatsoever returning a coin. For the record, I would have bid up to 25 bucks for that lot.

Sorry for the late reply. Just seeing this. Thanks for the vote of confidence as well. I think I got a good deal. Still pleased with the purchase. I think its because based on what I see on ebay I know this is a good price. Maybe if I went to coin shows and stores and whatever else I would be exposed to a world of better deals...but a single raw red/brown pre-1930 cent goes from $10-20 alone with regularity on ebay. And theres 3 in this batch. The more common dates between 1930 and 1935 seem to go around $5-10, so... Thanks duece!

Quote: You'll never know how good (or bad) those cents are until you remove them from that album. Those type of albums are noted for causing serious damage on the reverses. Totally agree here. When I started filling my Wheat cent Whitman folder around 5 or so years ago, I filled up most of the 1940-1958 slots with full red coins. I just bought an Intercept album a couple months ago and transferred all of my cents over. The obverses were still red, but nearly all of the reverses had turned RB or BN. It's sort of amazing what happens, you can wipe most of the "dark layer" of stuff that gets put on the coins by being in the album off with a microfiber cloth, and it definitely returns the lustery look to the coin, but it is still not RD. It is permanently RB-BN. Luckily those were all really common coins. I have some more valuable early date ones now and figured I should upgrade to the album. As for shopping on ebay, it's a great place to buy coins and/or gamble on bad pictures. I've bought early MS62-MS64 wheat cents for just $20-$40. There are plenty of hidden gems out there. But I always do my research and take calculated risks. I don't make many buys, but I generally make good ones.

Just read this thread, glad you like Lincolns! That 32d is a tougher date to come by, but I'd be careful spending too much. Notice what stuff I'm selling, its been a very hard road, don't get much and continuously am lowering prices or trying to make offers better, without much success. Have even given stuff away. On the 32d, looks MS, but with condition, fingerprint, its probably graded 63/64RD, but its worth no more than a MS60RB pricetag.
