Basically an unplated cent is a very RARE coin, meaning one in 100's Billion through the minting process. an unplated copper/zincoln will have ALL fine details and show a sheen to the zinc. Electroplating removal involves heat distribution, this causes a discoloration, grey to dull black, acid removals (nitric) will also destroy the fineness of detail and remove a visable rim. here is an un clad coin, it is real:

Notice one thing about the details, obverse is quite clear but reverse weakens out. this is because the missing CuNi layer is making coin of thinner material and there is less pressure applied during strike. On a Cent, the plating layers are too thin to make this difference so details will remain sharp!
