I do believe that you, sir, have found a nice 'error'. Even though it's really a polishing issue. Great eyes and great find! This is indeed a 1972-D "No FG". It's in pretty rough shape but in its condition it's worth $10-20! Soak it in acetone!
Rest in Peace

with Redfin. These are the type of finds we all wish for. A nice example that might be helped by a pure acetone bath. It doesn't matter if it is polishing, it's certainly gone.

After checking the coin out a few more times, I think an acetone bath would do it wonders! I think it may clean that gunk off and turn out very detailed.

if you look at ther 2nd set of pics you posted, the second pic shows the FG ghosted right where it should be. It was polished. When a closer pic is taken, it is more difficult to see, but it is there.

For some reason cameras can sometimes make the polished letters disappear - especially the closer you get.

However, I have seen many still showing ghosted FGs just like this one - that were slabbed as "No FG" by PCGS, NGC, and ANACS - for sale on ebay over the years. If these companies were truly taking the time they claim to on each coin, they would easily see these mistakes.

I will not keep one unless it has absolutely no trace of the initials at all - they do exist.

I tried to see the FG with the camera close at a lot of different angles and different lighting but could not. But the second picture of the whole coin shows it there with out question. as I tell myself keep searching.
