I have a 1989 D Lincoln Memorial penny that has a strange error unlike any I've ever seen. It seems to have been stamped so hard that on the "Abe" side of the coin you can see the faint trace of the Lincoln Memorial pushed thru. And on the Lincoln Memorial side you can see the shape of Abes head pushed thru. Anyone ever seen the likes of this?

If you are in reference to this(circled) it is coin contact, reversed image from roof trim. Either accidental or on purpose

It is caused from over using the dies. Somehow, after many thousands of strikes, the design from one die is transferred to the other, then the coins struck with those dies will have the "ghost" image on them.

It is common on wheat cents, especially from the 1950's.

Well, so as you don't give a bit about how this happened and just care about if anybody else saw one of these so called "errors" - Then NO, I have not seen one before!

And if responses like that continue to people just trying to help you, you likely won't continue to get any responses at all for long.

I can't tell too much about the obverse but what I see on the reverse is as cwb referenced: "ghosting". The technical term is Progressive Indirect Design Transfer (PIDT).

Yes, I have seen many like that.

A PIDT is NOT a mint error, therefore commands NO (ZERO) extra value, Unless you can convince some poor unsuspecting soul on ebay that it is...

It is fairly common and not a marketable error, similar to other forms of Die Deterioration. There's really no added value.
