*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***Well, have it in hand. Seller pix were wrong, if you remember from here: http://goccf.com/t/298165 It looked a bit discolored. Apparently same problem I'm having trying to get a good shot through the coffin. Coin is lustrous enough to be RD and I would grade less than a 67 tho. There are problem spots that even new pix don't pick up...am wondering if I need to crack it out and try conserving or if it's too late. Think it's the latter, it's a goner. Reverse has a black mark (seen in pic) around and in AMER and whole side has a "dullness" to it. The darkness is actually a brighter area reflecting back. Obverse sadly has what appears to be a split plating issue all around the rim edge adjacent to fields(Black IGWT) and has corrosion showing under vest(white in pix). Also, note around edge by LIBERTY looks like a wipe mark, wonder if someone pre-coffinized did a "treatment"? Pardon my photos, best I am able to get through slab, my scope only gets so much and my macro on camera isn't working. Last pic shows color the best. Think I should:...? RETURN NOT AN OPTION! 1) Crack it and try to save it 2) Leave it alone and keep it 3) Be dishonest and resell as NGC MS-67 Edited by Crazyb0 10/14/2017 8:55 pm

Auction sale, "No Deposit No Return" would make it too easy!

I personally don't trust NGC grades, that's why I said " NGC, I'll say MS-68".
If you're not happy with it, take Chase007's advice and sent it back.
EDIT: I posted before I saw your post about no returns.

Here's what I think Crazyb0. Since there's no return on this item and problems with the coin, I think you should go with option #1 and crack the case open and try saving it. Make sure to wear gloves when handling the coin so it doesn't get fingerprints on it. I'm sorry that this happened to you. Hopefully, you can try saving it so it doesn't eat itself away with Zinc Rot. In my opinion, option #1 is the smartest thing you can do. Option #2 and #3 would be not the best option. Hopefully, this helps.

I think I would go with #2. #3 is morally wrong. #1...you might end up with less than you have now.

I would not go with option 1. If you got it on ebay, you can return it through ebay regardless of what the seller states. If you want to resell it at a fair grade, crack it open and either first send it to ANACS or sell it without plastic. If you want to keep it, leave it as is. It will last a very very long time as is.

To bad Crazy...hopefully it was right priced for the chance. I agree with the return option. If you can...do so...and then find yourself a better one. Best of luck to you!

I agree that it would bother me too much to try and pass it off to someone else, so option #3 is out. Between #1 and #2, it depends on what you would do to attempt a conservation. As far as zinc rot, I think it's pretty safe how it is. Cracking it out would only expose it to fresh air and moisture that could rapidly affect it in the negative. Personally, it wouldn't be enjoyable to me seeing it in that slab so, I'd probably free it and use a long acetone soak and Verdi-Care (maybe a long soak there, too), then put it in an Air-Tite. So, I guess I just voted for Option #1.
