Here are two more coins from my Dads collection he was curious about. I had posted about the 1785 vermont. These are both 1760 VOCE POPULI coins but drastically different looking. I did some research and saw there were quite a few different "Nelson" varieties but was un-able to find descriptions of the differences. Calling all experts to weigh in on what they are and why the different looks.

I moved your coin to the world coin section. Hibernia is the Classical Latin name for the island of Ireland.

There is a coinfacts page with links to several Nelson varieties that have pictures. You should be able to lock down on one.
I think the first matches with Nelson -4 due to the LI of Populi being connected. But, I admittedly did not check all the others.....

Many varieties of these, as noted... This post should be within U.S. coins (within a Colonial/post-Colonial subcategory if there is one) for attention. These are far and away collected primarily as Early American.

Both are pretty solid pieces, btw.

That is where it was originally posted. I will move it back to see if it gets more attention there.

The Voce Populi pieces appear to be genuine. I do have the reference on these but not where I can lay my hands on it at this moment. I can say the second one appears to be Nelson-3 but I haven't identified the first one yet.

The reason for the differing looks is because these dies were completely cut by hand, and possibly by different die cutters. Although they were a private speculative issue made to circulat in Ireland, they are often collected by US colonial coin collectors. Possibly because the Georgivs Triumpho token of 1783 bears a similar legend Voce Popoli.

Thanks all for the replies...doing my own research, I have found it difficult to find pics of some of the nelson varieties...Especially the Nelson 10. Sheldon, do you have book references you used or was there a site you found that had the 10 pictured.
