Poll Question
Part of his collection is being actioned off soon. Looking at some I'm interested in I noticed they already command a premium.

I'm not sure they deserve a premium, but I've no doubt they'll usually command one.

Depends on the coin. The high end guys don't care, lower range stuff will very likely have one in an auction like that though

There a few coins that can identified by their pedigree, but, coins should be valued by their own merit...not previous possessors.

Whether or not we feel they deserve the premium is likely irrelevant. There are always going to be people who will pay the premium because they see value in the provenance.

I will pay a premium for a coin Eric Newman felt worth owning. My opinion should not inform yours. Unless you're bidding against me.

I know Alfred E. Newman, but who is Eric Newman and why might someone be interested in coins he previously owned?

Oriole, he's a dead dude, what happens to your collections when your grubby relatives get hold of it. Smart ones market it well.

The coins he chose were superior examples with exceptional eye appeal more times than not.
Those coins can easily deserve a premium, regardless of previous ownership.

I would pay the extra, provided it's noted on the slab. On future resales, it will again attract a premium. Dorado, that link leads to a virtual coin encyclopedia. Can't imagine him owning all that stuff! (And, I never left the colonials.)

Good question mike. I have been wondering the same thing. I do like the little Manila envelopes that provide more history and have his handwriting. I noticed many of the Heritage auction coins also are Ex: Col. E.H.R. Green. Those should command a premium in my mind at least.

@Crazyb0, I hope that this shows no disrespect for Eric Newman, but I really want to get that Alfred E. Newman medallion! Alfred E. resonates more with me than Eric.
