My bank orders me four boxes of cents every week. This week they were all 2017-D so the first box I zoomed through looking for large errors.

Starting the second box, I got my loupe out and in the first two rolls, there were 26 cents with die cracks and some with cracks and small chips. They are all very similar and only after taking the photos did I notice this one has two die cracks as noted. Still have this box and 2 more to go through.

Thanks for looking.

Cracks in that area on the shield are pretty common - I used to save them untill I kept finding them so now I just re-roll those.

Thanks Chase.

Mark, I don't like looking through these new ones so I haven't run across any. The fact that I found so many in two rolls, I assumed they were common but did a quick search here and didn't see any threads on the subject. It was a quick search and I may have missed it if there are any. Thanks for your input also.

I can't stand finding just a few shield cents in wrapped rolls let alone a whole box of them - I give you credit for your perseverance -

I have 7 boxes of brand new 2016's that my bank got me months back and I haven't had the desire to go through them yet. My bank has been so good to me, I don't want to take them back in the boxes/rolls. Eventually, I'll get to them or the grandkids may one day.

If they are all from the same date on the boxes, they are all from the same run. If they have different dates on the boxes, then each box should be checked. After going through about 5 rolls from each box, you should have a pretty good idea what is in there. If you find doubled dies, save the rest of the box. If you find nothing in them, then you can return them. If you have several from the same run, you might try selling boxes on ebay. But the shipping can be expensive, so check which way is best to send them before coming up with a price for them. Some have send me rolls to check for them in cause they missed something. They put a letter on each box and each pair of rolls they ship me. I keep what I find, and send them back results for the box letters. If they are Denver mint rolls, they yield a lot less doubled dies in them. Philly seems to be where we are finding more doubled dies.

coop, the 7 boxes of 2016's look to be String & Son boxes (ones with the holes), and all seven boxes are stamped '5142'. Not sure what that means but looking through the holes at the coins, they all appear to be brand new. I haven't checked these so I'll do as you say and look at several rolls from each box and if nothing shows up, recycle them hopefully, for old ones.

Thanks for your help

Usually there is a date also stamped on the box. That is what I would go by. If you have other boxes of different years, you might check to see if that is a code for identification. If that is the case, the different other boxes might have the same number. If they gove a different number, then they maybe marking them differently. If you got them all the same day, they could all be from the same run. How to tell? Look for die markers on them. If you see the same scratches/chips/or something else, they might tell you if they are from the same batch.
