*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Hi there, I'm new to the forum and would like some advice. I started collecting coins around 6 months ago and it's become an addiction lol. I recently came across a 1886 V nickel in a coins lot I purchased from a girl who was given the coin collection from her grandfather who passed away. I believe these coins are quite rare. I was wondering if someone who could tell me the grade of my coin. The only thing is I can't get the photo to upload. Any help with that too

The 1886 is not a trivial coin. An entire pic would be helpful. A search of ebay 1886 nickles (both sold and currently listed )should be a worthwhile trip for you.

WOWEE! Unless I'm reading my charts wrong, that thing should be worth more than $450!!

From what's in the pic it appears to be at least in "very fine" condition, maybe close to "extra fine"!
Four to five hundred dollars is not out of the question. Whatever you do, do not clean or try to make the coin look better!
A big "WELCOME" to the community, too!

You have a key coin in that series . of both sides of that V-Nickel , to give better evaluation of grade and value .

to the CCF. This is not a trivial coin and in fact is one of the three 'key dates' from that series (along with the 1885 and 1912-S). By the limited photograph provided I concur it might grade in the VF range. Photographs of both side would help us to real help you. As already stated above ... do not attempt to 'improve' this coin in any way by cleaning, rubbing , etc. Doing so will destroy most of it's value. David

Ryan and yes better pictures of both sides would help us a lot. Indeed this is a rare date coin in the series.

You certainly have a winner there as long as the rest of the coin is as nice as your partial photo.

Glad you posted full pics, unfortunately it does look cleaned, but it's still a decent coin. VF details cleaned, and I'll let someone else comment on value.

Looks like it got cleaned sometime between the first and second set of pictures.
If so, that really erases some of the value out of it!
