Purchased this coin tonight for $222.50. My favorite attributes of this coin are the red toning and the prominent, beautiful mint flow lines that can be seen throughout this coin. The stars are also nicely struck. What do you think those white spots are? Your thoughts on grade and problems are appreciated. Thanks!

First, that was an excellent choice. I really love that one.

No hint of cleaning, unless it was a very old dip. Regardless, it's definitely a righteous candidate.

Strong obverse, medium to light reverse strike.

55. White spots are just areas that haven't toned.

Congratulations on that snag.

AU-53, original, with fabulous toning. Perhaps there was some debris or glue-like substance that protected those spots from toning, which later got removed with acetone. Not very distracting at all. Beautiful coin!

I'm not necessarily claiming it's the case here, but those white spots are a classic sign of an improperly-rinsed dip. It could easily be - for instance - original toning after someone sneezed on it.

Yeah that's more like it! Totally original and I've seen plenty of toned coins with white spots. They compliment the toning. What causes it? A sneeze isn't out of the question or some type of organic substance that prevented the area from toning. NICE GRAB!

Again, very difficult to capture the red toning throughout the entire coin on both sides. First set is the coin in indirect light, and the second set is the coin enhanced to show visible nuance in toning. Looks like this will also go for an acetone bath.

First coin unenhanced and sitting in intercept shield holder:

Second set is enhanced to look more like it does in hand:

Nice coin. Whatever the seller did to enhance the original picture would concern me (happened to me with a coin I bought recently). From the Seller's pics, the reverse looks different by the eagle's head and makes liberty's cheek less dull/appear less rubbed

This is actually beautifully red on both sides, but the toning is really tough to capture. I think I got a reasonably good depiction of what it looks like. Another set after the acetone bath.
