Looks nice, especially the color A weak strike on the shield? Thoughts on the grade?

I think it has a typical late die state strike. Note that both the horizontal and vertical lines in the shield are not complete. The outline of the shield is also weak at the bottom.

The reverse also shows a typical strike with the top 3 stars flat with no separation among the points.

the 1866 Shield nickel was the first time the design was tried on a coin this size. Smaller 3 cent nickel coins were minted in 1865 with similar striking issues.

If I were picking one up, I would choose one with a good or great strike rather than settling for typical.

MS-65. Not bad. May look better in hand. Shield lines could be better. Unless it's a great deal, I'd wait for a fully struck specimen.

Thanks for all of the opinions. The strike on the obverse does sway me away from this one. Love the color though. Will post the grade for those who are curious in 24 hrs

A really nice 'with rays'.
I am going to go with AU55,
but I think there is some degree of weak strike as well.

There are small flat areas where there should be high points in the design (tips of leaves, parts of the scrolling around the shield, and less than excellent definition on some of the rays).

I can't quite make up my mind on the raised bump area in the horizontal lines of the shield - someone else may be able to educate me.
