Unless you've owned it for the last 158 years, you can't say that for sure. Just because you didn't clean it doesn't mean somebody else didn't. All the same, there is enough doubt in the images so I will not say for sure that it's been cleaned. It has the technical merit of a decent XF example, and would sell for something over US$75 if in a straight-graded TPG slab. It is, of course, not certain that it would receive such a slab.

Have to agree with the funny color camp. Still looks XF.

The first thing that came to my mind was '' Cleaned '' . Look at the black color between feather tips , right under bust and in and around the E & T in the word one cent on reverse . Sorry but this is not an original coin .

First year of issue for U.S. Indian Head cent. I agree that it looks like a Cu/Ni cent that has been harshly cleaned at some time in the past. But, nice detail remains on the devices.

Sorry but this is not an original coin . That's exactly what came to my mind as well, it has definitely been cleaned at some point before your possession. It is still a nice coin and I am also leaning towards XF grade and agree it may not receive a straight-graded TPG slab, it may be considered damaged.

Hopefully legiux will clarify the accuracy of this color.

EF-40 for me (with no call on surface originality).
