Is there a certain website or place where I can learn a lot about ancient numismatics since it seems interesting but I don't know that much at all.

"Ancient numismatics" is so broad..but I think you should first start by going to a local coin show/shop, looking through whatever ancient coins they might have, and seeing which types appeal to you (Be they Greek, Roman, Byzantine, etc). Then with a more specific goal in mind it would be easier to learn and get familiar with. When I started collecting ancients I began with Roman and the two websites I used the most were probably wildwinds.com and forumancientcoins.com. Also, good old fashioned history books help a lot with understanding the history behind a coin!

I had completed some rather valuable sets of Australian coins.
Next challenge: -
Where to from here?

I needed to collect coins in an area of numismatics, where it is impossible to complete a set.
The decision? - Ancient numismatics provided the obvious answer.
That was wayyyy back in 1968.

With ancient numismatics, there have been a huge number of scholarly books written, and some have earned their university degrees on the subject. My learning curve is just as steep now, as it was in 1968.

I have a niece who has a pHd in archeology. My ancient coin collection in part inspired her to study in that area.

Now, I collect and study World coins all cultures all centuries, but ancient numismatics is still my first love.

A very good start would be to review our own @echizento's work in this area:

A second thought is that hanging around here and reading through the posts provides a pretty good education. At least to start, I'd recommend being quick to ask questions and slow to answer them.

Right here is a good place to start to learn about ancient coins. By reading the threads, you will see that there is a variety of interests from Roman coinage, Greek Coinage, Byzantine, Chinese, Medieval, etc. You can learn a lot from them.

There is a sticky section here titled. Books, downloads and websites. There you will find information that will cover all areas of ancient coin collecting.

Hippity,

Hop on over to this link on FORVM- http://www.forumancientcoins.com/nu...ecting%20101 to a good broad overview of ancient coin collecting. FORVM also has many other articles on ancient coin collecting, both general and specific, under their Resources section on their home page.

I have about 35 books on ancient coins, and about 10 specialist papers or booklets.

Nevertheless, the keyboard is now the single most important learning resource.

As you learn more, you know better where to look to extend your knowledge further.
