I recently came across a box of foreign coins and paper money. Two of the paper notes interest me. Any ideas about these, or any value? BTW the pics are for reference, my camera isn't working.

The Fiji overprint on Reserve Bank of New Zealand was an emergency issue for WWII. They are moderately scarce.

That's a fairly scarce note, and also a reason why the base 1934 issue is fairly scarce, lots of them were overprinted.

Go to Realbanknotes.com and register there, you can browse the Image Gallery for Fiji and peruse the values of these notes online.

Fiji was a major strategic port for the Americans in early WWII, and we wasted no time in occupying Fiji or New Caledonia. Thousands of soldiers and sailors needed currency, so the New Zealand vaults were raided and overprinted for the emergency. There were also smaller notes of One Penny and One or Two Shillings, as well, due to coins also being in short supply.

Fiji obtained some shipments of regular currency in late 1942 and this solved the problem for the remainder of the war. The regular printings of colonial notes from Fiji are popular, and somewhat common, due to the quantities issued and numbers of souvenirs coming home with the US personnel.

That is really cool, my grandpa was stationed in the south pacific at the time. Was going through some old boxes getting ready for a move and stumbled across a pretty large amount of coins/paper.
Thanks ya'll!
