I'm pretty sure that's a Collar Clash. Nice find. A keeper and make sure you you put in a 2x2 for protection.

Yep, I think you're right. The link says it's a Collar Clash because a misaligned die slammed on top of the collar. Do you know if the collar is holding the hammer die or the anvil die?
Rest in Peace

Nice one.

It looks to me as though Roosevelt has an extra row of hair just above the portrait and there's a worm lurking below the neck above the MM. Clash marks?
Rest in Peace

Thanks Moxking. Yes I think so Buddy. The pic doesn't show it, but flames from the torch are below his chin. The reverse has been heavily polished too.
Can anyone tell me a little about the collar? The links won't answer my questions.

CoinMasters, the question you asked I won't be able to answer it since I don't know enough about the Minting process. Coop or Mike Diamond should be able to answer your question. Sorry.

I assume the collar holds the anvil die.

No.

Scroll down to "The third side of the coin" ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coining_(mint)

There are a lot of sites with information about the minting process. I'm not sure I could ever explain it properly.

I appreciate it Buddy, but the link gives me a blank page. I did look at this one http://www.error-ref.com/collar-clash/ and it says the misaligned die comes down on the collar. That'll do for now. I had a very old and very slow windows 7 on a very old and very slow computer so I hadn't had much success with links or I'd know this by now. I've now got a new pc with windows 10 - super fast! I'll be catching up on some details now. Thanks.
Rest in Peace

No problem -- I'm sure you can find your way to Wikipedia without the link. There are a lot of other places that have that info. as well.
