I had a case opened against me today for a coin shipped to Canada with US Customs tracking. The tracking information shows the coin was delivered on November 15. The buyer claims he never got it. I would hope ebay would side with me on this. I don't know what options sellers would have if buyers could claim they never received coins sent with tracking that show delivery. Paul Bulgerin

I haven't had that happen to me... yet, but keep us posted on the resolution.

So wait - You sent this package, right? What was the value? By, let me guess, USPS first class with no signature confirmation?

Sometimes just have to bite the bullet and pay that little bit more for Signature Confirmation. Even CP honors that, someone HAS to sign for it. Even if someone tries to forge the recipient's signature, it got accepted so you're off the hook. About the only way to avoid this problem. I'm surprised you gogt record of delivery even. Everything I've sent to Canada goes off the radar once it gets transferred to Canada Post. Guess you have to use Canadian tracking...? (Former USPS Rural Mail Carrier)

It's not an expensive coin; only $12. I was surprised the seller paid for ebay shipping with US Customs tracking. Now I'm glad he did. I'll give ebay a call and see what they say.

No sig = no refund, my guess.

In the States, when a tracked no-sig package (USPS First Class) is shown as delivered but buyer claims otherwise, it means one of two things: someone stole it out of the mailbox, or buyer is lying. Even if you don't get a refund, it is best to pursue this as far as you can in ebay's Resolution Center so buyer is permanently tagged as a claimant in this rare circumstance.

Report the buyer for trying to run a scam. Get out ahead of the issue and inform the buyer that you will be filing reports with the Canadian police about the mail theft if he claiming and would like a copy of the police report he filed. Most scammers get real nervous and go away when you start mentioning police reports ect

I'm guessing that if tracking says delivered, you're in the clear. You did nothing wrong.

Critical point you raise. What rules, buyer or PO tracking?

I spoke with ebay tonight and they have decided in my favor. Since tracking shows the coin was delivered I am not responsible for refunding the buyer's purchase price.

Given your scenario, it was my understanding that ebay was going to decide in your favor as their policy is "tracking trumps all" and if it shows delivered, you're pretty much in the clear. I'm glad this was resolved in your favor. That said, this scenario is the EXACT reason why tracking proves nothing to me and also part of the reason why I now only ship within the US and its territories. A rogue postal employee can always slit a package, remove and/or substitute items, and you end up with no proof of anything. Or a rogue buyer can simply state that the coin received wasn't the one in the auction and then it is just your word against theirs.
