1927 Notre Dame Cathedral Bronze
by Raoul Benard Notre Dame Cathedral A Bronze restrike of Raoul Benard's original 1863 medal. This was probably struck in 1927 in France. The edge is marked as such. On the obverse is Notre Dame Cathedral and what I believe in latin, Ecclesia Parisiensis Beatae Mariaewhich translates from Latin to: Church of Our Lady of Paris in English. On the reverse, the image of Mary with Christ Child and guardian angels which is outside of the cathedral, in front of the Rose Window, a famous stained glass 10 meter in diameter window. Ave Regina Caelorum translates in Latin to English, Hail the Queen of the Heavens

TNG I posted a medal in white metal. I was asked what that is and I think it is Tin. Is that correct?

"White Metal" is a generic term for a mixture of non-precious metals. Could be the "German Silver" of Feuchtwanger or other mixes. Most often it will contain nickel, tin, copper and other metals in different ratios. Lots of medals are made of white metal.

My 28th different Heraldic Art Medal A so-called half dollar 1964 Saint Louis Heraldic Art Medal Sometimes referred to as Founding of Saint Louis or Bicentennial of Saint Louis. ( a better image will replace this soon )In 1763, a trading company led by Pierre Laclede, who along with his stepson Auguste Chouteau set out in August of that year to build a fur trading post near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The settlement of St. Louis was named after Louis IX of France and was established at a site south of the confluence on the west bank of the Mississippi on February 15, 1764, by Chouteau and a group of about 30 men. Laclede arrived at the site by mid-1764 and provided detailed plans for the village, including a street grid and market area. It attracted French settlers leaving Illinois when Britain took control east of the Mississippi. The city grew in population due to its location as a trading post on the Mississippi River, as the western fur trade was lucrative. The city played a small role in the American Revolutionary War and became part of the U.S. through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.  Here's a collage of 28, I have an extra of these or two but these are all different. There are 60 in all I believe, some are quite scarce, some are kind of boring. These are my favorites from the set so far. Click it gets larger.

1907 Concours International De Musique Paris by Felix Rasumny  This is a rather large medal, it was described as silver composition, but I was suspecting it is silvered bronze long before the auction ended. There is not a lot of information on the history of Concours International de Musique that I can find, but I believe it translates to International Music Competition. I have read that traditionally in Paris, to start off the summer, there is a festival of music throughout the streets and in various venues. I do believe that this event has occurred for many years without interruption. Today there are still competitions of singing and playing of instruments. I have found earlier medals, and one that is almost exactly like this only almost a centimeter smaller and for Algeria dated 1902.  I have found stamps and postcards on the topic but I know little about them too. I did know I especially liked the obverse and it was a must have for me. About Felix Rasumny
