I'm seeing a lot of these on ebay. Even uncirculated Wheat cent rolls. What do y'all think about them. They look like fun to me but I haven't been doing this as long as you guys. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

This topic has come up several times before. I suggest that you do a topic search and you can get a lot of valuable opinions.
As I recall, opinions were very mixed, but everyone agreed that there is no such thing as unsearched rolls.

Unless otherwise stated as specific dates and mints , 99.9% of the time you will only receive common Wheaties 40's and 50's from e-bay . we know it's very tempting for a Newbie to want to indulge in buying or biding on these teaser rolls so thread lightly my friend .

I'd also avoid the ones with the silver dime on the end, they pretend they found this roll in an old hoard and its never been searched, and by golly there is even an accidental Barber dime or Indian Head cent at the end of the roll......who knows what other treasure lies within!!? I guess it'd be like playing a scratch off ticket. But at least there is a legit chance of hitting the jackpot on the scratch off.....slim as it may be.

More directly - don't do it. You'll have better luck with rolls from the bank.

Yeah I had to live and learn from this like I do everything I bought 2 both ends were pretty tight and had teens on both ends I ended up with 6 teens 2 twenties 4 thirties and the rest were forties and fifties not worth it all I found was a 1917 lamination error and that 1945 very minor clip so nothing really so don't get suckered into it not worth it

Yeah, never ever buy anything with a silver dime on the end. When these rolls were "originally bank wrapped" in the "thirties and forties" it was mostly done by hand. The only reason dimes get into penny rolls today is because an auto-sorter that sorts thousands of coins a day slipped up. I, before joining this forum, spent about $25 on these scams and had a few notable mistakes: I got a roll that was "capped with two dimes" and searched through it, then counted my total # of coins, only to find the total to be 52, instead of 50. I got another roll from a different seller that contained a 1960 Memorial penny, despite being advertised as "kept in a bank vault since 1950"

Rest assured those rolls have not been searched since the person selling them rolled them. As Crazyb0 states, buy a roll or two and let us know how you make out.

Consider it a right of passage of sorts to to buy an "unsearched roll" from ebay. As crazy said "it'll bug the crap outta ya until ya do"

What about the rolls on ebay that appear to have been sealed on the ends with some sort of machine (the ends of the roll look rolled over), are they legitimate unsearched rolls? I saw some the other day that were supposedly uncirculated bank rolls from the 40's.

Try your luck if you need to scratch that itch ... seconding what has already been said that there are no unsearched rolls on ebay. Quote: I saw some the other day that were supposedly uncirculated bank rolls from the 40's. Try those as well if you choose to ... let us know how that goes for you. My advise to both of you ... FWIW ... steer clear of ebay 'unsearched rolls' ... the sellers know exactly what they have and are hoping to make money off you ... otherwise they (sellers) would list them individually. You are much better off purchasing your coins one at a time knowing what you are getting. My opinion ... others can and may disagree. David

nickelsearcher,
I don't plan on buying them. I should have asked the question differently I guess, which is, how do the rolls get those crimped ends on them which don't look like hand rolled coin?
