Hi, I am not a coin collector but have been searching online and think this may be a group to help me out. My fiance was home the other day and her mom gave her a box of stuff from high school. In there were 3 of the 4 rolls of Sacagawea coins she had received after getting a certificate in her Cheerios box in 2000. The 3 remaining rolls are unopened and we are trying to figure out if they are worth something or not. From what I have seen "Cheerio" dollars are worth quite a lot but it is no guarantee that they are indeed the ones of value. Any thoughts or opinions on how we should proceed? We live in Chicago if that helps.

If you are able to post pictures of the reverse we can surely give you our opinion

We are hoping to pick up the coins in the next week or two after which I will post the reverses. One of the problems though is that she did not win the individual coin. She won the certificate in which they sent you 100 coins in 4 rolls of 25. We still have 3 rolls and will only be able to see the reverse on 3 of the 75 coins. Should we open these rolls to examine each coin or is there more value leaving them unopened?

I've never heard of a Cheerio's Dollar appearing in a roll. Every one I've seen (ungraded) was in a cardboard backed blister pack.

Maybe open one roll and video it. If the whole roll is CD's then leave the other two unopened. John1

Please share photos of the rolls when you get a chance, this is very interesting. If any of the end coins show the reverse, please include photos of those as well.

I had forgotten that was one of the prizes! Funny how the "grand" prize turned out to be the less desirable!
Anyway, the Cheerios dollars were supposedly made in 1999, hence the prototype reverse. If your fiance got the rolls in early 2000, they are most likely just regular old Sac dollars, 100 of the nearly 1 billion made.
5,500 Cheerios dollars were made; not all of which have the special reverse. Only about 80 have been accounted for, so there should be plenty that were broken out and spent.
