Hello

In my past posting I learned about "zinc rot"(Thanks for showing me). I found another penny with the same pollution in the process of production but the difference that I see is that the marks in the adverse are in opposite directions than the obverse , plus it has many chips and holes in parts that I think had more chips in the past and a possible change of color in some parts and it seems to be broken. Maybe was acid? A lot of sea water? Could you explain me what happened to this coin?

Thank You!

I assume you mean reverse and not adverse. That is normal. It you lay it flat (like the sheet stock it was punched from) you will see that the lines are running in the same direction from top to bottom. When you flip the coin, they appear as if they're running in the opposite direction. I hope that makes sense.

Well, there is a lot going on with this coin, but in the end, I think that you can safely spend it. I see normal wear, but also the dark color could be ink or environmental damage. Those pin holes are where there was a breach in the copper layer and the reactive zinc has been exposed to water/salt water/diet soda/who knows. It doesn't look like a typical acid bath cent to me (try searching CCF using those key words to see lots of good examples in previous threads).
