when I go to pay for an item I find myself leaning over to see whats in the till and have scored a couple coins in the past including one of those hard to find glow in the dark toonies.

I do not peer into the till. It seems too obtrusive and weird, coin collecting being weird enough. Plus, I usually pay with a credit card to get the 1% back. Over the course of a year, that can pay for quite a few coins.

Same here, have to agree. But I do get itchy around cash registers.

I've spent enough time on the other side of the register to know that if a customer has an interest in its content, it's time to shut the register.

Just having fun. But I do admit to poking through the "Leave a Penny" tray.

If I see a lot of bright new coins I sometimes ask if I can have some in change!

hahah not only do I not care about being "obtrusive" I will ask for specific coins back in change...

ie: I see the register open and there's a colorized coin.... I will ask for it back in change. Most tellers couldn't care less.

I use the line, "Would you humor me." before I ask. Usually brings a smile.

. If I see a desired coin, on comes the charm and the coins go home with me.

Has anyone just asked for an unopened roll of coins as their change if they have paid with a larger bill.
