I have a question for the Kennedy half collectors out there! I have one that is missing the bottom half of the E as it doesn't go all the way to the scalp. The right downward extension of the letter R appears to be weakly struck and it is missing the part of the hair that forms into the R. This silver half dollar is not a product of Die Deterioration and all of the obverse lettering is strong. The back stamping is equally strong. Every part of this coin I appears to be well struck except for what I have mentioned. If this coin is so well struck then why are these letters in the word Liberty missing? Btw, this coin came in a treasury coin container with 19 other coins and is well preserved.

We'll need pictures in order to help you out. Sounds like it could be a Grease Struck Through that caused it, but without pictures, it's impossible to tell.

Not really sure what you mean, but missing the bottom of the E is part of design.

We need pics. It does sound like a partial Grease Filled Die, die polishing or both.

I think he means the upright of the E disappears before it reaches the head. This is the result of die polishing.

Condor101, that explains why below the R there is missing hair and the R looks like a duck bill.
