Found this on local marketplace. Searched in google, find out that it was one of varieties of new dollar coin instead of Eisenhower, no more info, also nothing on ebay. This awful photos made by seller. I think he's trying to fool someone, what you think? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Frank Gasparro created this coin as a pattern, but the SBA was chosen instead. This design has been minted by private companies from time to time. You can still buy them. The originals were supposedly destroyed by the US Mint...

@ammcollect, here is a link to a discussion of the history on this design: https://forums.(150827) Not Allowed - Auto Removed/discussion/820813/frank-gasparro-1977-lady-liberty-dollar-pattern I agree that the piece in your images is most likely not a real pattern coin. Several of the details (e.g. the hair) have been simplified significantly.

Yeah, Jbuck. Isn't it cool how it had the faceted rim similar to the Anthony! I wonder if that was a design requirement from the Mint?

I have a few of these. They are available for a couple of bucks with and without the S mint mark.

Quote: I wonder if that was a design requirement from the Mint? I can't find the legislation authorizing the piece, but there is discussion of the multi-sided border in the proposal bill: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt...=1up;seq=157 (that link should take you to page 153, "Criteria for Evaluation"). The smaller size was desired to reduce the amount of metal and improve circulation, and they experimented with different shapes. Multi-sided coins (i.e. not round) would not be easy to produce and vending machines wouldn't take them without major modifications. Moving the odd sides inside the border helped blind people and slug detectors.
