Hey Guys. I just recently started collecting coins and I have found this 1982 P Quarter that has a few things I have questions about. First, The "L" in Liberty is printed over the rim. Second, it appears to have some double die in certain places (I hope I'm using the correct terminology. If not, I apologize.) I'm posting several pictures with this post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry posted this in wrong section before.
What you have is a later die state coin suffering Die Deterioration Doubling. As dies wear, metal flows outwards within the die. This moves and stretches the elements. Because of this ize increase, dies must be ground down to fit their holders, this causes those devices close to rim to come in contact with edge. Take the L on Lincoln cents as/example. Read more:
Probably the master hub was needing a replacement. The design is getting similar as the 1968 obverse cent dies looked. Probably a side of this and probably one of the next few years would probably confirm this theory.
