I agree with Coconutjoe for U.S. coins:

Non-U.S. is tougher. I'll have to think about it more.

The best looking american coin is the Standing Liberty quarter. The 1970's french franc coins are also very nice.

I am a huge fan of US Admin of the Philippines coinage!

Beautiful is their simplicity.

US
Shield and V nickels
Morgan and Peace dollars
SLQ
WLH
ASE
Although I own no gold, I also find the Liberty and St. G. double eagle to be most attractive

Foreign
1960 crown
1847 crown
Victoria jubilee bust half crowns
Early George V half crowns
(Can you tell where my main interest in foreign coinage lies?)
1967 Canadian dollar...its beauty is in its simplicity.

I agree with SLQ and Philippines.

[Edit] Above is my opinion for the design. However I believe the most beautiful example of a single coin would have to be from the 19th century original skin as the 20th century coins just don't tone the same way.

That is a tough question. I personally find many different coins to be stunningly beautiful for numerous reasons. Of that list to pick my top one: a Peace dollar. Something about that coin strongly resonates with me every time I see one.
Rest in Peace

I am going to agree with a good number of others and say that the Walking Liberty half is the most beautiful U.S. coin, not only because of top-notch execution of design but also the symbolism.

I think the winner for commemoratives would no doubt be the Dolly Madison.

Of course it is. This thread would be rather boring otherwise.
