Jeesh, just don't understand you guys at all. You can barely make out Liberty. Half of the tail feathers are smooth. How can this be VF? Buehler? Anybody?

Quote: Jeesh, just don't understand you guys at all. You can barely make out Liberty. Half of the tail feathers are smooth. How can this be VF? Buehler? Anybody? Back in the day, when Chesterb was avoiding bullies in the playground and chasing girls, he learned his mad grading skillz from a book by Martin and Dunn titled 'A Guide to the Grading of United States coins'. This was before we had photos...that's how old this was! The book had drawings of coins and you had to decipher the drawings and written descriptions to determine the grade. Well, back then, in order to get a grade of F you needed all 7 letters of the word 'LIBERTY' to show. In VF, all 7 letters needed to be strong. That was it, that was the description and the main determining factor. Now, they look at the drapery folds, head and hair detail etc along with the detail remaining on the shield. It's just the way it is and how grading has evolved. Based on the detail remaining overall on this coin, I grade it now as a VF-20.

If "R" was visible, I'd say VF20.
