No real point to this except to vent, so bear with me.
So I'm expecting my next BIG shipment of coins, all the way from Switzerland. I was pretty amazed at the processing time, until...
(Paid Dec. 9) Dec 11: Received Dec 12: Shipped overseas Dec 16: Arrived at customs Dec 17: Cleared customs, checked in at regional distro center Dec 18: Checked in at local distro (less than 20 miles from my house. Nice, so it'll be here tomorrow) Dec 19: In transit to destination Dec 20: In transit to destination Dec 21: In transit to destination
I feel bad to bother the USPS at their busiest time of the year, but come on! I guess I can call tomorrow to see what's going on if it's not checked in at the local PO. Nothing critically time sensitive, but I'd rather it be safe at home than in a postal black hole.
Anyone else anxiously awaiting anything in the mail?

I've had overseas packages ping pong around myself, regardless of time of year.

This is the time of year the PO can screw off without consequence...they have an excuse! (BTW, I used to be a rural carrier). But they do push it to the limits. Just last week I had swapped with a fellow CCF member letter size items. We mailed same day, Atlanta to Central MO. My letter arrived in quite tattered condition three days later. After another 5 days, including a Sunday, the errant letter did show up. There really is no reason for this, all letters are processed automatically, put in trays and sent on to next stage. There really isn't the amount of increase in volume that is purported, more, yes, mountainous, no. Small parcels as well, add 1 day cross country is what should be, but...Postal Employees have to have their office parties too ya know... Why Grandma's card may smell like beer...

I recently had one take from the 22nd to the 12th of the following month. It only had to travel 3 states.

I had a package from Heritage take 9 days with Priority and I was beginning to get concerned, especially since it was a mid level four figure package. I was particularly concerned because two of the coins were virtually irreplaceable unless I wanted to spend a decade looking for replacement.
Went out to my mail box on the 9th day, and there it was without a signature confirmation required.
Yikes.

Yikes for sure. I have had that occur before and it always concerns me.

Glad to know I'm not alone!
Mail came today, no package. USPS has already updated the status to "in transit" for today, the time stamp dated to 20 minutes in th future.
Last time this happened with an international package, it was in a "thick envelope". Person in charge of the package said "this is a letter!" And put it in the letter bucket for letters. Person in charge of letters said "this is a package!" And put it back... this went on for a week until I called the post office, and it was at my door in 35 minutes.
Hopefully I can get a repeat of that luck!

You're not alone.
I am waiting for a package from Europe that sat in U.S. Customs in NY for nearly two weeks.
The last four days show it "in transit" after finally being released from Customs. At least I know it is somewhere on its way to me.

I purchased a coin (in the US to the US, not from overseas,) on 12/12. The seller promised slow shipping, so I knew what to expext, and they are delivering Just shipped. Not complaining, just kinda funny.

An update:
Called the USPS 800 number on Friday. Waited 90 minutes on hold to confirm that they have no idea what happened. It went back to the distro center yesterday, and is once again showing as in transit... maybe it'll be here on Tuesday!
I guess if the worst were to happen, it is at least insured.

I did have the experience with a U.S. purchase of opening an e-bay case to get money back, only to receive a mangled package days later. Coin was OK and seller was reimbursed.
