Those are just the sort of things that grab me. Very nice collection. I don't think many are seen on US coins.

Thanks for sharing, very unique but one question, why were the 1859s planchets having this issue?

I just love them MG, especially the 3rd from the end. The 1858 & 59's were essentially 1/3 thinner than what the same presses were minting before. The British half penny was exactly 25.4 mm (one inch) in diameter, the same as the newly ordered Canadian large cents. Canada wanted the weight to be 4.54 miligrams (100 would be 1 pound)so the coins themselves could be used as a measuring devise, both weight and dia. The Brit halfpenny used much thicker planchets (about 1/3 greater), so both the planchets and the dies took a beating (the dies because there was less buffer between the dies to absorb the pounding.
The Canadian people did not like the thinner planchets and many many cents lay in bank vaults, unused. When the next cents were struck, 17 years later, in 1876 the Brit halfpenny and the Canadian Cent were exactly the same size and both planchets and dies lasted longer.

Phenomenal presentation and excellent history too.
I very much enjoyed your presentation.
I don't think the US has ever seen such problems on any series or dates.

This 1858 cent is in an MS-63RB holder. I believe it is actually a specimen (it has the specimen die pair). Anyway, it is kind of a cool coin with two huge planchet cracks.

Marcel - Those are great coins. Wasn't trying to deflect attention, merely to add.
