Hello Y'all,
Greetings from the once upon a time beautiful state of Texas...

Today, for your consideration, I have a 1966 U.S. Quarter...

I'm curious if this is a clad error or some other type of error... I saw a penny that appeared to have some other type of metal in it , but fail to remember the term they used in the description of the error, so I'm hoping one of y'all can enlighten me a bit.

It appears to have some of the clad coating missing and doesn't seem to have been purposely abused... I tried to clean it up a little for the scanner with a clean cloth and noticed a slight blue tinge to the "copper" area...

Any help would be greatly appreciated... and Merry Christmas!

Just a stain on the coin. Note where the color rubbed of the highest devices? Now showing silver color again. If the planchette was missing or partly missing, the color would be dark red like a copper cent. There would also be a step down because of the missing clad layer.

But the surface is level and the area appears to be a different color. Not a mint error.

@DNATF, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @coop that your quarter has staining on the surface (in addition to an arc of damage from being gouged) which occurred after leaving the mint--no errors here. Of course save this quarter if you want, but the value is only 25 cents.

with Spence and coop. It is not a mint error, it is a stain on the coin.

Okay... Thanks for all y'alls input... That is the same conclusion that I had come to as well, but the fact that the "stain" is the only copper showing on the edge threw me off a little... I had assumed... and we all know where that leads...
Happy Holidays and may the good coins come your way...
