*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

So I have this 2005 Lincoln that I affectionately call "The vampire hunter". I'm just trying to understand if this is caused during the stamping process or is it just something that happened to the coin during its life? Either way, he's pretty beat up! Also his hair just looks odd?

Looks to me like run of the mill wear and tear (so-called post-strike damage or PSD) on this coin, although the two tick marks on Lincoln neck are kinda funny. No value beyond face value as far as I can tell.

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

^Roger that on the identification!
I've got a few uglies that are neat in a visual sense. Just wondered if the pits and scrapes were caused by some fod during stamping. I'm new to this scrutiny!

Don't matter what topic you put it under it's still just circulation damage.
Some of it looks like being hit with a reeded coin meaning it was in a junk bag from a bank

None of the marks on that coin occurred at the US Mint .... all are post-strike damage ( PSD).

Keep it as a curiosity if you enjoy it .... thats the nature of the hobby. Just be mindful that it's value will always be 1 cent.
