Quote: I'm just trying to understand if this is caused during the stamping process or is it just something that happened to the coin during its life? Looks to me like run of the mill wear and tear (so-called post-strike damage or PSD) on this coin, although the two tick marks on Lincoln neck are kinda funny. No value beyond face value as far as I can tell.

^Roger that on the identification! I've got a few uglies that are neat in a visual sense. Just wondered if the pits and scrapes were caused by some fod during stamping. I'm new to this scrutiny!

Don't matter what topic you put it under it's still just circulation damage. Some of it looks like being hit with a reeded coin meaning it was in a junk bag from a bank

None of the marks on that coin occurred at the US Mint .... all are post-strike damage ( PSD). Keep it as a curiosity if you enjoy it .... thats the nature of the hobby. Just be mindful that it's value will always be 1 cent.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art
