These days I find myself in an odd situation where buyers on ebay claim that they never received coins / banknotes. It's getting to the stage where it's acceptable for buyers to push for freebies. You might let it go if it's one but having to deal with three in one year - it's not acceptable. At shipping cost at 3 dollars for air mail, it's the cheapest but there's no tracking. Upgrade it to something slightly better at registered mail and you have a tracking number at 17 dollars. This used to be really good as it had online tracking more than a few years ago. Now? It's literally useless as you pay for a number and it takes forever to track anything. Plus you cannot use this as an evidence to prove that the item was lodged. Upgrade it to the 'standard' package and it can go over 30 dollars depending on where you send it to. US is 23 dollars, UK is 28. It's not cheap. Of course it's beneficial if the item is worth more than a couple of hundred dollars but when it's 50 dollars or less...? It's frustrating but as a seller - what would you do? Any alternative overseas courier?

Have you checked with ebay's overseas selling option?

I don't know what the options are in Australia, but I use ebay's Global Shipping Program for 99% of my listings and have never had a problem with shipping outside the country when using it.

ebay has definitely created an environment where buyers look to get free stuff whenever they can making tracking an absolute must. There's also UPS and DHL but they won't be any cheaper. Honestly I would just have the shipping charge and if they want it they have to pay it maybe offering a discounted price for larger orders. ebay does have the global shipping program but that is almost always significantly more expensive for the buyer than just paying the shipping fee from you and generally kills any international sales. ebay pretty much ties a sellers hands with this and there really just isn't any cheap shipping options to or from AUS with door to door tracking.

I just wish there is an option where the buyer has given out too many negative feedback, there needs to be some kind of investigation. All three buyers have that as a common issue - they assumed it's ok to leave negative feedback without any fear / consequences.

GX, 3 in a month would be an amazing month for me! There is a certain element of fraud that will occur, and you can only make your best effort to mitigate the damages. Here is how we look at it: Items under $100, if lost, are 100% self insured. Cost benefit shows it simply isn't worth anything outside of standard tracking. Our two biggest tools to combat fraud (which has seemed to increase fairly significantly this year, but I will have our final numbers for 2017 for losses at the end of January) are private insurance for domestic packages over $200 and international packages over $100 for most countries, $200 for several other countries. The second is our blocked bidder lists. We have a very extensive list, which when I've compared to a couple of other dealers, I was quite surprised with how much overlap there was. That indicates a serious systemic flaw. Now, there is nothing you can do if a problem buyer keeps creating new ID's... (I fought a fruitless battle on this with an ebay rep 2 weeks ago) As a slight aside, I see you are in the Aussie section of the forum, it might be a good thread to move to the ebay section and get some more attention to the thread

My non-U.S. sales accounted for less than 8% of my numismatic and exonumic sales.
For all the hassles that dollar amount wasn't a good enough reason to deal with those problems.
US only for me.

jdmern - thanks for your feedback. I guess the reason why I posted it is because I'm based in Australia and want to hear more about sellers that faced similar experience and their solutions.
That said, I believe it is a topic that could be placed in the main forum - minus my challenge of shipping from Australia.

It is a shame that ebay shields problem buyers like they do, but unfortunately they took away all seller repercussions besides blocking them. When in doubt all you can do is block someone and even that isn't perfect as they can make a new name or someone who wouldn't have been a problem will get caught up in it from time to time. I do wish a lot of these buyers that are always so quick with negative feedback or to ding sellers would try selling on there for a while, they would be a lot less heavy handed with the negs if they did.

ebay is most assuredly a fickle place. The weight is given based upon the profit model of the company. That primarily lends weight to the buyer, but not always. Some buyers are so dumb as to proclaim their dissatisfaction while ignoring what really matters to ebay. I still love this example from my own feedback: The buyer obviously was not aware of the "negative" feedback option. What they wrote means nothing to ebay. By the way, the item sold was exactly as described and the buyer, for some reason, decided they were completely unsatisfied. It's a strange place sometimes, but I'm used to it.
