what is the difference in the slabs like this one and the other 2 or 3 looking ones that say first strike which is best to buy?
Unfortunately, the differing labels as such are a marketing ploy - read on this forum and you will find "first strike" does not necessarily mean the coin was a first strike.
Snake oil.
However, if you collect slabs b/c you like them, then look at sold
ebay items to see which "flavor" the masses buy most. A set of the same label looks very nice.
These differing labels may retain value over the years or come crashing down if mass psychology eventually decides the coin, and not the paper or plastic, is what counts. Its hard to tell.
Coins were once collected by some people since coins/money define value. They are the stuff we pay with. But assigned/perceived value with is there b/c marketers are geniuses at exploiting the human psyche.
Things like Beanie Babies had their day b/c eventually the craze fell flat when people sobered a bit from their emotional high of the fun. These collectors started asking themselves why they were paying thousands of dollars for plastic beads inside a cloth, animal-shaped bag. No silver, no gold, just recyclable materials. At least the different labeled slabs have a coin in them.
