Hi - I'm looking for some opinions on this coin... I expect it to be fake since I sort of just stumbled on to it and didn't even know I had it! I must have picked it up in a collection clearance years ago - I buy a lot of coins. But I focus more on world coins and don't have much experience with US coins. I never looked at it closely because I just assumed it was fake. It has always been in a cheap plastic holder since I have had it. I recently took it out to check it over and look for the "copy" marks etc. but was struck by how heavy it was for size (I've never held a gold coin before so I don't know...) and I couldn't find any replica stamp markings. It is sized about 34mm & 33.4g. so that seems correct. Is there anything noticeably telling to indicate it is fake? Thank you!

Not my series (for obvious reasons) but I see no warning bells. That would be epic to get in a collection.

I am not an expert at pre-1933 US gold, but I don't see any signs of it being counterfeit. I'll be interested to see what the experts say.

Looks OK to me. I'll wait for the expert's opinions.

It looks fine. Weight and diameter being spot on, along with normal color/luster of a 90% gold piece, would give me no worries. That said 100% certainty on authentication can't be done from images.
This is a common date worth a nominal premium to melt value in low MS condition which this piece appears to be. Looks like a nice MS63 in your images. Early congrats because I'm 99% sure it's genuine.

Wow! That would be awesome. Thanks very much all for the input. As I said I've never held a gold coin before. I do have experience with fakes though & I could tell this coin was different but I wouldn't let myself believe it was real!
I'll have to look into taking it to someone with more expertise so that it can be checked out in person.

Looks legit to me and in around MS63 grade.
Send it to ANACS for a quick grading and encapsulation.

63 and no problems I can see. Worth submission to NGC or PCGS.

I'm no expert either but (for fun) I zoomed in and compared with a PCGS MS66 and could detect no differences in detail. Even the subtle blobs on the top of her foot are the same. If it's fake it would fool a lot of people.

I would send it in to PCGS or NGC for grading. I compared it to a real St. Gaudens double eagle and I can't detect any differences. Worth sending in to PCGS or NGC.

So nice to see a suspect coin turn out to be real, especially such a valuable one. Nice find Brummagem.

Not my series of expertise either ... but appears authentic from here. Lovely coin from the way you described acquisition, Do whatever you wish with TPG certification ... I'll be the contrarian and suggest the money spent is worth it if you have any remaining doubts ... otherwise put this coin away for what we suggested it is.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art
