Not familiar with coin but that does look like a broken collar effect with the rim upset affected that way, or possibly a strike on a broken feeder?. Is the coin edge supposed to be reeded completely?. Curious to see what others say. It could be PMD too. Jury's still out.

Thanks for the reply, no the coin is not meant to be completely reeded. As described on the RAM (Royal Australian Mint) website the edge is "Interrupted Milled"

From RAM website
Nominal Specifications

Composition: 92% Copper - 6% Aluminium - 2% Nickel
Shape: Circular
Edge: Interrupted Milled
Mass: 6.60 grams
Diameter: 20.50 millimetres

to the forums!

Sorry to not welcome you at first, my bad!. Okay, I understand that now. Notice the heavy indented ribbing portion? That's because the collar has been damaged in that area. It is a machining error, unusual so it may have some value, but as Mark1959 say, "Don't quit your day job!". Not worth a lot, but is interesting because it doesn't happen that much. The collar is the portion that surrounds the coin so when pressed the edges form. If the surfaces have been mangled which appears to be here then that damage would be impressed into the coin's edge.

MMM Hard to see this as a genuine mint error.Been hit by a lawnmower is my opinion. PMD for sure.
