I found this 1940p nickel roll hunting, I'm wondering if it is a die break or post mint damage. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Its heavily worn condition precludes a definitive answer. But I strongly suspect it's post-strike damage.

Reminds me of a Cud.

XOG: I have to agree with Vaslin on his call. One way to be sure is to check obverse edge opposite the Cud. See if there is weakness in design there also. If it is a Cud that part of the die broke off. The opposite edge has nothing to press with in that area so it leaves a weakness there. Let us know what you find.

XoG, looks like a small rim Cud to the right of Monticello IMO.

I would have to say post mint damage, there is as Mike says, too much wear for a definitive answer.

Try looking at the rim from the side and see if it looks flattened.
