Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 01/19/2018 6:55 pm Looks like what has happened is one of two possibilities. Since Mintmarks were added to each working die by hand (causes RPMs), this may be a broken punch OR the inside post has broken off inside the device on the die. Think reversed, the center of the P on the die sticks up. If that breaks off it will cause that fill. Happens on cents in LIBERTY and dates in the 9 and 6's most often. to the forum! coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/20/2018 1:42 pm The location on pre 1990 coins were hand punched in the die. So locations vary according to where they landed. Post 1990 coin had the mint marks as part of the design. I agree, it is a damaged post that is falling apart. A few more strikes and the center are of that post will be history.
