Hello to everybody! This is my first topic on this site. Hope to get some help on the issue. Is this a repunched mint mark? or it is a wear die? Thanks for your comments.

Ok not a rpm... but the question remains. What is it? That is no a normal P mint mark.

Thanks to all of you. Coppergold, here it is the difference between a regular P and this one. Take note of the distance and the hair as well.

Looks like what has happened is one of two possibilities. Since Mintmarks were added to each working die by hand (causes RPMs), this may be a broken punch OR the inside post has broken off inside the device on the die. Think reversed, the center of the P on the die sticks up. If that breaks off it will cause that fill. Happens on cents in LIBERTY and dates in the 9 and 6's most often. to the forum!

Thanks Crazyb0. Have you seen the irregular distance from hair? It is closer than regular P mark.

The location on pre 1990 coins were hand punched in the die. So locations vary according to where they landed. Post 1990 coin had the mint marks as part of the design. I agree, it is a damaged post that is falling apart. A few more strikes and the center are of that post will be history.
