queston 1: are the Ike's 1972 S dollars the only dollar that have 40% silver?

question 2: are Ike's dollars before 1974 40% silver?

question 3: are the 1972 varieties (type 1,2, and 3) struck only at Philadephia mint or San Francisco mint?

question 4: I have 1972P and 1974P Ike's dollars...it's confusing for me to determine if they are 40% silver

I guess my questions are confusing because I am too

Not all S mint Ikes are silver, but only the San Francisco mint produced the silver version. So all silver Ikes are S mint.
The edges are the easiest way to tell. If you see the sandwiched copper, then no silver.

Look up a Dansco Eisenhower with proof album and see what the 32 holes are labeled - that will tell you which ones are 40% silver

Here's the complete lineup in digital album form, listing every type made. The 1972 Types 1-3 were all minted in Philadelphia and all are of a copper-nickel composition.

Thanks to everyone that responded and the answers are so easy to understand, especially with the images. That was so nice!..I will post an image of the 1972P Ike that I think is type 2, since it's the rarest of the 3. It will take me a while to do that...thank you all so much. I need advice about whether to sell or spend my Ike dollars. If I sell them on ebay with the fees and all, I will probably come out with the same amount if I spent them. so I see why some people just keep them
