XF details cleaned.
This coin has a type 2 obverse and reverse which is a die pairing that was common for 1878 coins. Looks good so far and if it weighs close to 27.22g and does not stick to a magnet it should be ok. I think it is genuine.

Moxking just isn't a feet guy!  I grade it XF-45 with a prior cleaning. Please be aware that these are highly counterfeited. When you get into the bigger dollar coins, you'll want to make sure they are graded by a reputable third party grading service.

Thanks Chester and all. I got the coin in hand today and it's really a nice coin but obviously been cleaned. I see that now, newbie mistake but still think the coin was worth it.

Quote: ...has 4 distinct fingers. The OP's coin has 3... Looks like 4 to me, as it should be.  The obverse is the correct type, the reverse is the correct type. I have examined thousands of genuine and fake Trade dollars and I see nothing to indicate this one is not genuine.
