Found is some recently acquired War Nickels.
So I looked on PCGS for a 1942-D and no joy...
I looked on Numista and again all other years are there except 1942-D...
Hopefully someone out there is an expert on Nickels because this one is strange.
All other War Nickels I have the MM is above Monticello Dome
This one is on the right side of Monticello...
Did Denver not produce a 1942 War Nickel or is like the one and only 1942-S found and verified?

Denver did not produce a silver version nickel. That is why there are only 11 in the four year set

Yours is a relatively tough coin find ... but not silver.

Concur with the replies above ... any 1942-D Jefferson is the pre-war composition ... and no large mintmark above the dome.

Thanks coop! Another great illustration to go in my collection.

I found (2) 1942-P with no mm and then the '42 D and was very confused as I thought the mm was always above the dome for '42-'45...

You never stop learning on here...
