@RM, welcome back to CCF. Looks to me like all three of these coins is a bit darker than normal, as can happen from environmental exposure. This isn't a mint error though. Were you thinking of something else?

Looks like some coins that got toned and stained during circulation.

They might have spent sometime in the ground.

Why are they black? Are they worth holding onto?

Nope; only worth face value.

Now show me with a sore neck But seriously, doesn't sideways photos make it hard to see what is going on with the coin/coins in question? It seems to be a problem mostly with IPhone for some reason. I know it's not just me because I see it mentioned by other members once in a while. On occasions, a sideways photo is needed to see the area in question more betta but come-on now. This will be the last time I bring this matter up,promise.

I agree, John, wrong way is hard to "read".

I often use my Fire looking at the forum, and you can't move the tablet to make it upright.

John1-
Looks like by reading the "Coin Community Support Forum"
that I agree with and thank you for, bobby is now instructing that all photos
be inserted facing upright besides having them cropped.

They probably were homeless for a time, altering the surface of the coins. Spendable.

Some carry them in their pocked until they get that antique look on them:
